Context
For a major player in the energy infrastructure sector, we are looking for a Data Designer to
support the modernization and further evolution of an in-house Gas Flow Management
application suite.
You will join agile development teams and contribute to new developments, technical
upgrades, bug resolution, incident management, and long-term data platform evolution.
This role is part of a broader modernization program preparing the organization to handle
green energy flows (H₂, biomethane, CO₂) while transitioning toward a modular and efficient
IT architecture.
Project Environment
The current data platform is based on Microsoft’s on-premise data & analytics stack :
• SQL Server
• SSIS
• SSAS
• SSRS
In parallel, a strategic Business Intelligence and Advanced Analytics program is driving a progressive migration toward the Azure Data & Analytics stack.
You will work closely with data engineering and analytics teams to ensure alignment between operational systems and future data architecture.
Role & Responsibilities
As a Data Designer, you will transform complex datasets into clear, structured, and business oriented data models and reporting solutions.
Your responsibilities include:
• Capturing and clarifying reporting requirements with business stakeholders
• Designing transformation plans using load diagrams
• Maintaining data dictionaries
• Testing and reviewing implemented reporting solutions
• Supporting business validation (UAT)
• Performing technical analysis on Gas Flow Management databases
• Structuring data for optimal usability and clarity
• Reducing recurring support issues through structural improvements
In your day-to-day work, you will:
• Break down business requirements into estimated user stories within an Agile framework
• Refine user stories into concrete tasks and deliver within sprint cycles
• Design conceptual data models aligned with existing architecture
• Document data load design and semantic layers using UML artifacts
• Handover structured analysis to Data Engineers
• Create and execute component, system, and UAT test scenarios
• Collaborate with Business teams on Power BI reports
• Provide support on data lineage and transformation decisions
• Review and challenge analysis, documentation, and test results within the team
Must Have
• Deep knowledge of Ralph Kimball data warehousing concepts
• Proven experience in conceptual data modelling and design (5+ years – Senior level)
• Strong analytical and synthesis skills to clearly define problems and reporting
solutions
• Strong communication skills to interview end-users effectively (active listening, critical interpretation)
• Fluent in English (spoken and written)
Should Have
• Good knowledge of SQL (mainly DML)
• Experience working in an Agile environment
Nice to Have
• Background knowledge in the energy sector
• Experience with Azure analytics tools (Azure Data Factory, Data Lake, Databricks,
Synapse, etc.)
• Experience with Microsoft SQL Server data warehouses, SSIS, SSRS, SSAS
• Knowledge of Power BI
• Knowledge of UML
• Experience providing support to end-users
• Proficiency in Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio
• Proficiency in documentation/communication tools (e.g., Microsoft Office)
• Fluent in Dutch and/or French (spoken)
